Green card application – The whole 3 steps
However, there is a set of rules that are to be followed by every person who has gotten permanent residential permit after successful acceptance of green card application. If the concerned person fails to do the same, his card can even be canceled, and he can be deported from the country. The complete processing of documents takes many years as far as a application for a green card is concerned. The number one thing that is considered is the applicant's immigrant group as well as the country of origin. There are basically three steps during the entire process.
First, the Green card application must be filed to the USCIS by an employer or relative on behalf of the person seeking the same. The next stage is the allotment of the visa number at the office of the United States Department of State. This step is a very hard one, since there is a specific amount of visa numbers that are released every year, and it is basically reliant on the immigration personnel regarding whom they see fit to be granted a green card. Generally, only immigrants who have immediate relatives residing in the country and having a green card have a higher chance of getting a visa number, and inching closer to their own green card.
Following this, the final step is to submit an applicant form for getting the immigrant visa. This needs to be done at the USCIS or the nearest US consulate of the applicant's country. Following the successful completion of this step also (after a battery of background checks!), the applicant can reside in the US, but can't leave unless the application for the green card has been approved or otherwise.
