The U.S. EB-5 immigrant investor visa allows an immigrant investor to gain a
green card visa and permanent residency for themselves and their immediate family, provided that their investment creates and sustains a set number of American jobs.
While these visas offer fantastic opportunities for the immigrants and their families, there also exists a tangible advantage for the United States. In this article we will examine two ways in which the EB-5 visa positively contributes to the United States.
1) EB-5 creates jobs - EB-5 is short for: Employment Based 5th Category. The satisfaction of the visa requirements is wholly reliant upon job creation. Everytime an EB-5 visa is issued, opportunities are
being created for American workers. With over 4,000 of these visas issued in 2009, the job creation they provide has become truly significant.
There can be longer reaching implications for job creation as well. In some EB-5 cases the immigrants make their investment into a business model that involves several other investors. This pooling of funds can result in a business that sees the creation of many more jobs than are necessary to meet the requirements of the visa. If successful, these businesses will continue to generate jobs well into the future.
2) EB-5 stimulates economies - Often times the investments made through the
eb5 visa program call for new construction or renovations. These projects result in the employment of construction workers, engineers, architects and others specialists. The newly created jobs provide income to local residents who then put that money back into other local businesses. The new taxes generated by the business ventures also contribute to the stimulation of the local economies.
The
eb5 investor visa has a direct, positive impact on the economy and, by definition, creates jobs for American workers. This visa is one of the most mutually beneficial that the United States government offers immigrants, and due to its recent extension to 2012, it will continue to facilitate the creation of jobs for American workers - and provide opportunities for permanent residence to foreign nationals - for several years to come.
