Road traffic accidents in Europe
By: Robert Palmer | Posted: 09th January 2009
A lot of people complain about the way that other people drive, and that's true no matter what country a person is in. There are a lot of traffic accidents in Europe that could be avoided, though, if people would follow the laws and rules of the road. When these things are ignored, it makes the chances of an accident a lot higher and can risk the lives of a large number of people, which isn't worth it just because you're in a hurry to get somewhere. Speeding is one of the most problematic issues when it comes to traffic accidents, and it's also the one that's the most easily preventable, so you have to be aware of how dangerous it can be and whether you're contributing to the problem by being in a rush when you get behind the wheel. You should also take care to make sure that you know the rules of the countries around you when it comes to their roadways because Europe is so closely connected. It's becoming much easier to have a road accident in a foreign country today than it was in the past.
The EU is interested in having a directive in place that will make it much easier to track down insurance companies in other parts of Europe because of the frequency of traffic accidents in foreign countries. This would require each insurance company to have a representative in every other member state that would be authorized to act on their behalf to pay claims. It would stop people from having to serve papers on foreign individuals and would also help with language barriers and other problems. No matter how well this directive does to improve insurance regulation in various countries, though, the main thing is that the people who live in these countries have to be careful about what they are doing and work to reduce the number of traffic accidents that are being seen all throughout Europe today. It's one of the only ways to protect people from themselves and others as they get out on the roadways and go about their daily lives.
