Abul Kalam Azad is a renowned Urdu poet. He has been a prominent Muslim leader in India. He is a great name in Urdu literature, which most of the people do not even know. His work and dedication for Urdu language can neither be ignored nor be denied.



Maulana Abul Kalam Muhiyuddin Ahmed:



He was an Indian Muslim Scholar and a senior leader, who played a vital role in Indian independence movement. He was born on November 1888 and the great leader, philosopher, and the legendary poet left us on 26th of February 1958. Since he was too much into writing in Urdu, therefore he adopted his pen name, Azad. Now commonly he is remembered as Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad.



Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s Philosophy:



Abul Kalam has always supported the Hindu-Muslim unity. He was one of the prominent opponents of the partition of India on the communal lines. After the partition, he chose to live in India. He has been a big devotee of socialism and secularism. He was trained in other genera’s like Hanafi fiqh, shariat, mathematics, philosophy, world history, and science. Azad was a religious person who more comfortably followed the Ahle Hadith fiqh. He has the honor of accumulating many treatises reinterpreting the Qur'an, the Hadith, and the principles of Fiqh and Kalam. He believed in the ideology of equality and justice. He had been criticizing Britishers for their racial discriminatory policies.



Political Career :



Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was the first education minister of India, after the partition. He had predicted the state of military rule and its partition, before the independence of Pakistan. In 1992, the Indian government announced the greatest civilian award for him, the Bharat Ratna. He has contributed maximally in the education establishment in India. He was a great adherent of education in India. This is why; the Indian government celebrates his birthday by celebration National Education Day across India. Maulana Azad emphasized, “We must not for a moment forget, it is a birth right of every individual to receive at least the basic education without which he cannot fully discharge his duties as a citizen”. He got his prominence from his participation in the Khilafat movement and during this time, he came closer to Mahatma Gandhi. Azad was the youngest person to serve as the president of Indian National Congress in 1923. Abul Kalam Azad was a prominent figure in Quit India rebellion, after which he was imprisoned with the entire Indian leadership.

Azad has craved his name in Urdu poetry. He has been working as a journalist, critique of the British Raj in India and a great nationalism promoter. His masterpieces are still recited by Indians and many Pakistanis as well. Whoever reads and understands Urdu, knows this name. Azad mastered several other languages with Urdu. These included Arabic, Hindko, Persian, Bangla and Hindi.



Azad has contributed his golden words to Urdu Literature. His work will always be remembered in the history of Urdu. The Urdu lovers are bind to love this master of Urdu due to his unforgettable masterpieces.
