Whiplash and Personal Injury
By: SmithSEO | Posted: 18th December 2009
Whiplash is one of the most common injuries that occur in car accidents, particularly rear- end crashes. The neck is thrown forward, then back, or the other way around, resulting in soft tissue damage that can cause weeks of pain and problems. Whiplash also occurs frequently through sporting activities.
Whiplash can be extremely painful and prevention is better than cure. The best ways you can prevent whiplash are to wear a seat belt and to use car head rests properly. Head rests are designed to help prevent whiplash but if they are set too low they can actually increase the amount of damage done should you be in a whiplash accident.
Whiplash involves damage to nerves, tendons, muscles and discs. There are a number of symptoms that accompany whiplash and not everyone experiences all of them. Some of these symptoms can also be associated with other conditions so it is important to see a good doctor to check them out. Symptoms can include:
• Difficulty concentrating
• Feeling irritable
• Ringing in the ears
• Pain or numbness in the arm (and sometimes the hand)
• Blurred vision
• Dizziness
• Feeling very tired, or having problems sleeping
• A stiff neck
• Pain in the neck
• Pain in the lower back
• Pain in the shoulder
• Pain in the jaw
