Weird and Strange Laws in the Midwestern United States

All those miles and acres of flat prairie lands in the Midwest United States sure do inspire them to think of some strange and weird laws:
Illinois
- Never be caught with an empty pocket! You may be charged with vagrancy if you do not have at least one dollar on you.
- In Chicago, it is illegal to eat in a restaurant that is on fire. But what better way to get that genuine, flame-broiled taste?
- Also in Chicago, it is illegal to give a dog whiskey. That's because dogs prefer tequila.
- In Galesburg, no one may keep a smelly dog. It is also illegal in this town to burn bird feathers, and there is a $1000 fine for beating rats with a baseball bat.
- In Kenilworth, a rooster must step back 300 feet from any residence if he wishes to crow. If only all animals were this considerate.
- Speaking of animals, in Normal, it is illegal to make faces at dogs.
Indiana
- Sleep well; in Indiana, hotel sheets must be exactly 99 inches long and 81 inches wide.
- It is illegal to sell cars on Sunday.
- Liquor stores may not sell milk or cold soft drinks.
- In the town of Gary, you cannot go to the movies or ride a streetcar within four hours of eating garlic.
- In Elkhart, it is illegal for barbers to threaten to cut off kids' ears.
- In Beech Grove, it is illegal to eat watermelon in the park.
Kansas
- Hip hop hurray; rabbits may not be shot at from motorboats.
- No one may catch fish with their bare hands.
- In Derby, hitting a vending machine that stole your money is illegal.
- In Lawrence, it is illegal to carry bees in your hat while on the city street.
- In Topeka, no one may sing the alphabet on the streets at night. Nor can anyone scream at a haunted house, nor can you have snowball fights.
- Behave yourself in Wichita; one can be sent to jail for up to a year for making a lewd phonecall.
Kentucky
- It is illegal to fish with a bow and arrow in this state.
- One may not dye a duckling blue and offer it for sale unless more than six are for sale.
- In Owensboro, it is illegal for a woman to buy a new hat without her husband's permission.
Ohio
- In Ohio, it is illegal to get a fish drunk.
- One also cannot hunt whales on Sunday.
- Five women may not live in a house together.
- In Akron, it is illegal to display colored chickens for sale. These folks should talk to the people in Owensboro, KY.
- In Bay Village, it is illegal to walk a cow down Lake Road.
- In Cleveland, it is illegal to catch mice without a hunting license.
- Be kind to your web footed friends in McDonald; it is illegal to parade a duck down Ohio Avenue.
- In Paulding, a policeman may bite a dog to quiet it. Yikes!
