In 2006 alone the drug accounted for $3.2 billion dollars in sales. In 2007, after a study by a Cleveland Clinic cardiologist suggested the potential harm the drug could cause the F.D.A. oversight board none-the-less voted 8 to 7 to permit Avandia to remain on the market.<br /> <br /> Currently hundreds of thousands of patients are still taking the drug.
