The worst a Filipino baby-kisser can do in a period of state crisis like the unparalleled devastation wrought by storm Ondoy is to tar and taint nations that are terribly involved in humanitarian missions for victim-countries. And impugn motive on what are pure and legitimate efforts to help such victims as the uncountable millions of Filipinos now reeling from the heaviest rains to hit Metro Manila and bordering provinces in forty years.
Such worst behavior was on full display from Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago, ironically head of the Senate foreign affairs council, who struck out at the much-needed relief and rescue efforts being manufactured by the united states in the aftermath of Ondoy.
Even those who've been forgiving of Miriam for her prior senseless-if not lunatic-outbursts, her hysterias over nothing, are now horrified at the callous reaction of the senator to the US collaboration in the relief and rescue efforts.
Did she not read what US ambassador Kirstie Kenney claimed : What we are trying to do is put ourselves at the disposal of the Red Cross.
The Red Cross is a non-partisan, non-political global relief agency whose white and red banner is a welcome presence in all uneasy and hurt spots of the globe.
While the whole Defensor-Santiago family is probably comfortably whiling away through the Ondoy Apocalypse, US medical teams are working at evacuation centers.
According to accounts, members of the 3rd US sea Expeditionary Force are on a medical mission in the Ondoy-ravaged areas. In Marikina city alone, some a hundred GIs or American squaddies are attending to about 1,000 patients a day.
two more US army units-31st marine Expeditionary Unit and the initial marine Aircraft Wing, both stationed in Okinawa, Japan-will have arrived by this time, bringing with them heavy gear to help in the cleanup of the disaster areas. Such appliances include a bulldozer, five cargo lorries, five heavy transport autos and 2 heavy-lift helicopters.
And in the comfort of her home and office, Miriam is again casting motive where there is none, finding ghosts and shadows where there is only unalloyed humanitarian gesture.
Miriam, probably in fits of paranoia, sees dark conspiracies around her and perspectives the VFA with strings attached, folk see humanitarian gestures, pure motives, unsullied gestures.
Only somebody with a twisted mind will shout to the world that there is a vicious motive behind the US' gesture of help because it is, to her, a springboard for the american troops who will help in the relief and rehab work to stay in the Philippines for good.
To Miriam, the genuine motive behind the humanitarian mission of these US troops is so they could presumably go to Mindanao on the crafty and mount an assault on the Abu Sayyaf to revenge the deaths of two Yankee soldiers who were killed in a rebel-orchestrated bomb explosion in Sulu.
Whoa! What has the senator been drinking or smoking lately?
The patience of the public over Miriam's escapades is now wearing thin. Help is urgency wanted to save and help lives and complete communities. Help is pouring in from several parts of the globe, from our overseas Filipino workers or OFWs, from cities and towns not affected by Ondoy.
nobody casts motive on the help and assistance rendered by do-gooders, even if they're foreigners or congressmen. At that point, Ondoy victims need all the help they can get.
the sole one grating voice, allegedly unmoved by the great human crisis around her, is Miriam.
The 2010 election will hopefully serve as Miriam's day of reckoning. She has inflicted so much harm to innocent people and institutions. The citizens in May should say'Enough' to her terribly detrimental escapades.
much of the poison well in the country's political discussions has been the work of
Miriam Santiago. There should be a collective, conscious effort to reject her Senate run in 2010.
The supposed Interweb, the collection of cyber sites that document the follies of outstanding folk should post the ranting of Miriam and use as background the death and annihilation of Ondoy.
This will be her last hurrah. Hopefully.
